A Bit About Me..........
I graduated in 2003 from Liverpool John Moores University with a BSc Honours Degree in Coaching Science. During this time I coached part time as gymnastics & trampolining coach. After leaving University I perused my career in coaching and achieved my Level 3 UKCC in General Gymnastics, Pre School Gymnastics & Trampolining, After coaching full time in the UK for several years I moved to California USA to coach Competitive Women's Artistic Gymnastics where I spent 4 years.
I returned to the UK in 2009 to complete a Masters in Sports Therapy. My motivation for this life changing experience stemmed from the amount of injuries I'd seen and had to deal with in the 13 years I'd been coaching. As a first aider there is only so much you can do for an injured athlete leaving you feeling powerless to help at times. I had seen too many gymnasts returning back to sport before their body was ready, resulting in injury re-occurance and in some incidences this put an end to gymnasts' careers.
I graduated with a MSc in Sports Therapy in August 2011 and have been running my own mobile sports injury business 'Sports Injury Techniques' since September 2011 in the Surrey & West Sussex area.
Additionally I provide pre-season / sports screenings for Elite Football & King Edwards Schools Elite Athlete Programme and run a sports injury clinic at King Edwards School
I have worked within a clinical setting at London Metropolitan University Injury Clinic, assessing, identifying & treating a range of sporting injuries from roller derby to cycling. I worked with the London Irish Rugby Club as part of the post match recovery team for the 2011 - 2012 season and I've provided Sports Therapy Support at the British Rowing Championships, London & Brighton Marathon, for the International Samoan Rugby Team and many other charity events.
I am still involved in gymnastics and am currently the Head Recreational Coach at Horsham Gymnastics Centre.
What Do I Actually Do.............
I provide sports therapy support for individual athletes and sports teams whether they are taking part recreationally in different sports, aerobic classes, boot camp, activities of daily living life or are training as an elite athlete. This is done through the assessment, identification and treatment of injuries. I utilise a variety of peripheral & vertebral joint mobilisation techniques, soft tissue mobilisation ('Sports Massage') with the development of sport specific / and or occupational specific rehabilitation programmes which are designed to increase strength, correct muscle imbalances, increase flexibility, joint proprioception and muscular and cardiovascular endurance to return athletes to their sport or occupation.
I also utilise sport screenings to identify poor or incorrect movement patterns which are a result of muscle strength and flexibility imbalances. These imbalances will cause other areas of the body to overcompensate resulting in inefficiency and predispose the athlete to injury. Identification of theses imbalances allows me to develop individual and sport specific pre-habilitation programmes to correct the dysfunctional movement patterns and correct muscle length & strength imbalances to reduce the risk of injury or injury re-occurance.
